Demographic change is one of the focal topics currently under discussion in a variety of disciplines. But the relationship between culture and demographic change has received little attention to date. The Foundation of Lower Saxony concentrated on this subject at a conference on the 14th and 15th of October 2005. This event was presented in our Contemporary Issues series that encourages accessibility to and extensive public discussion of information on such questions as Stem Cell Research (2001) and The Cultural Landscape (2002).
The conference proceedings are now available in print

The conference was not limited to the effects of demographic change on the cultural sector and its institutions or the subsequent actions and options. Discussion was also focused on the role that the cultural sector itself can play in the process of demographic change: What interaction exists between culture and cultural values and the demographic development of a society?
As the conference was (with one exception) held in the German language, we refer you here to our German-language website for information about the schedule and presenters.
The conference was presented with the generous support of the University of Music and Drama Hannover.
